Starting from a deep appreciation of the English language, freelance writer Damon Erickson combines a first-hand knowledge of various cultures with a fresh and precise perspective on languages, writing, and translation.

As a teenager, Damon left his rural Montana home to spend a semester as a foreign exchange student in Mexico, opening the doors to a multi-cultural and multi-lingual perspective that applies to his writing today.

“I look to my rural roots to see what language means for the average person, and yet I still reach for my experience with Latino culture how language can break down barriers when crossing national and cultural boundaries.”

In 1994 Damon again left the natural beauty of his home state to study Electrical Engineering, English, and Spanish at Yale University. After publishing in the Yale Herald and teaching English in Mexico, Damon graduated four years later with a B.S. degree in engineering and promptly headed overseas to teach English in the Japanese public school system.

Upon returning from Japan in 2001, Damon put his multi-language skills to work for a Japanese manufacturer as the regional manager responsible for sales and marketing in all the western states and Mexico.

“The time I spent developing marketing tools, sales brochures, and strategies showed me how precise language can make the difference in how a company is perceived.”

“Language is one of the fundamental parts of humanity that we all share,” he says. “Language can be lively, sad, engaging and beautiful. It can also be extremely subtle and precise, reaching beyond our conscious mind to touch our hearts.”
