Cars in the Night
I’m sure there’s more than a few car nuts out there in the blogosphere who know exactly the make and model of this contraption, but let’s just say that when I saw this genie parked near our hotel in Lima, my heart just gushed for those designers who saw the AMC Gremlin and thought “we can do that better.” Great job, lads.
My Bus, My Shirt
That’s not to say it’s the only car on the road that has style. I’ve been wearing one around ever since Mel gave me this shirt some months ago—totally rad—and here in Lima I found the very vehicle upon which the T-shirt was based. It’s even blue.

Lima, Peru, Day 1
We paid too much for our taxi from the airport. The very first taxi station was inside the terminal just past the customs agents. After pressing the button and getting a red mark and being asked to submit my bags to a scan, I was just so exhausted at 5:30am that the first taxi got our business. $33 worth of it. But for that price we got a swift tour of the coastal road that runs south from Lima proper, below the bluffs of Miraflores, into the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco.

Leaving for Peru
Whirlwind is the word that first leaps into my mind when thinking about the morning’s final hours of packing up Melanie’s apartment in preparation for our trip, but perhaps “tornado” more aptly describes the our frenzied dash to close up the remaining boxes and burn DVDs of the final photos that Mel needs in order to finish up a few shoots.
Because we had our bags packed, it wasn’t really a question of whether we would make it, just a stressful few hours winnowing away the items that we needed to do before departure from those that, worse come to worse, could be postponed and completed during our trip, or at worst, upon our return.
